Who We Are

Where We Live

Why We Are Worth It

List of 9 frequently asked questions.

  • High academic standards

Independent schools nurture intellectual curiosity, stimulate personal growth, and encourage critical thinking. A larger percentage of students at independent schools are enrolled in advanced courses than in public, parochial, and other private schools. At TLS, it is cool to be smart.
  • Small classes and individual attention

Independent schools have low student-teacher ratios that encourage close connections with students. The ratio of students to teachers at TLS is 7-1.
  • Excellent teachers

They teach in their areas of expertise and are passionate about what they do. With more autonomy within the classroom, teachers are able to develop a full understanding of how each student learns and what interests and motivates each individually. The student-teacher relationship is the key element here.
  • Greater likelihood of a student completing a bachelor’s degree or graduate degree

Independent school students are also more likely to be completely surrounded by highly motivated, college-bound peers which research suggests raises expectations and performance. Roughly 95% of independent  school grads go on to four year post-secondary institutions compared with 49% of public school grads. (source: "College Transitions")
  • Education for the whole child

Independent schools nurture not just students’ intellectual ability and curiosity but also their personal and social growth and civic conscience. Opportunities extend well beyond the classroom to athletic competitions, artistic pursuits, and school leadership experiences.
  • Inclusiveness

Schools maintain diverse and vibrant student communities and welcome and respect each family. TLS is geographically and ethnically/racially diverse. See "At A Glance" to learn more.
  • A community of parents who actively participate in their children’s education

Independent schools promote regular communication among students, parents, and teachers to ensure everyone is working toward the same goals for the student. We are a partnership.
  • The opportunity to choose a school with a mission

You can select a school whose philosophy, values, and teaching approach is right for your child. Choice means everything here. You have chosen a school alongside parents and kids who value the same mission, so the community is strong and generous.
  • And most important:

An education that will pay dividends for a lifetime. It is an investment in a child, but it is one that pays in so many ways. Just ask around, and people will tell you.

Get Started

To GET STARTED, all you have to do is let us know you are interested. You can fill out a form online, email, or call us. We will send you some printed materials that supplement our website, and we will encourage you to look at our stories on social media, read our website, and learn as much as you can about TLS. We are an open book for you to read. We want to tell you all that you want to know, and we will answer any questions you have. We genuinely enjoy hearing from you.

Come Visit

While not mandatory for the admission process, we do encourage a visit. You can see us in action, learn about our specific mission and philosophy, and see the value for yourself. Also, it is important to educate yourself on all of the school options for your child, and a visit is one way of many to begin your research. Choosing a school is a big deal, so call 859-278-0501 or EMAIL US and set up a mutually convenient time for you to dig a little deeper.

For applicants in rising 2nd-8th grades, a day visit is a mandatory step in the admission process. Once you've applied for admission, we will set up a day for your child to spend with one of our welcoming peer hosts. It is a warm and welcoming way for older kids to be a part of the process too.

Apply Now

An APPLICATION is filed with the Admission Office, and parents, depending on your child's age, will request that SCHOOL RECORDS and a TEACHER RECOMMENDATION be sent to The Lexington School. Once we receive your application, we will be in touch on what specifically is needed.  Students ages 3 and up will come to the school for an admission screening. The screening varies based upon the child's age. Each grade level uses a screening mechanism that is age and stage appropriate.

Once a child has completed the admission process, the admission committee will meet to determine admission status based upon space and qualifications of all the candidates. Once accepted, we send an acceptance packet, and once you have signed the enrollment contract and submitted a deposit, the space is yours, and we begin an entirely new and exciting journey!

Admission deadline for priority enrollment is January 1st. TLS has rolling admission based upon space and availability. We do enroll students during the school year if we are able.
The mission of The Lexington School is to provide an education of the highest quality to students in preschool through middle school. In a structured, nurturing environment, The Lexington School seeks to instill integrity, a life-long enthusiasm for learning, and a strong work ethic.
