The Lexington School's dress code requires shorts, slacks, or skirts in solid khaki, navy, gray, or black, along with any solid-colored turtlenecks or collared shirts. Sweaters may also be worn. All clothing items should be devoid of pictures or patterns. Any solid-colored, jewel-necked, or collared dresses or jumpers are okay on any school day. Patterned tights are allowed in Preschool only; leggings must be worn under other clothing (they cannot be worn alone as pants). Belts are discouraged in Preschool, and shirttails do not need to be tucked in. Outerwear need not follow the solid-color rule unless it is worn inside the building.
Footwear: We ask that Preschoolers wear tennis shoes or rubber-soled shoes every day.
"No-no's": T-shirts, sweatpants, warm-up suits, and athletic pants are not allowed. Denim apparel in any color is not acceptable.
Friday dress:
Friday dress is the same as Monday-Thursday dress in Preschool, except the solid-colored rule does not apply. The collared-shirt rule applies on Friday also.
Acorns:
Dress code for Acorns is solid colors Monday-Thursday, and patterns are allowed on Friday. The collared shirt rule does not apply to Acorns.

First through Eighth Grade
Monday through Thursday:
The Lexington School's dress code requires slacks, walking shorts, knee-length skirts, or cropped pants in solid khaki, navy, gray, or black, along with any solid-colored collared, button-down, or turtleneck shirts. Solid-colored fleeces with collars, jackets, or sweaters may also be worn. Students are allowed to wear TLS branded sweatshirts only. TLS Hoodies are acceptable as long as hoods are kept down while students are inside. All clothing items should be devoid of pictures or patterns. This includes tights and socks. Any solid-colored, jewel-necked, or collared dresses or jumpers are okay on any school day. Belts must be worn if belt loops are visible. If leggings are worn, they are only allowed under a skirt or dress and never alone. Straight hemmed shirts such as polos or blouses may be worn “out”. These must be appropriately sized if worn out. All button-down shirts or those with long shirttails need to be tucked in. The school Friday uniform may be worn on any school day if so desired.
Friday:
Please use the images on this page as descriptions for Friday Uniform dress. Friday dress options will be provided by Land's End or Shaheen's. From November through March, boys are required to wear a uniform sport coat on Fridays.
Dress Code Exceptions
Exceptions:
On the first calendar school day of each month (other than Friday), there will be a “jeans day” for the entire school. Jeans or other regular dress bottoms along with regular dress tops and TLS spirit gear are appropriate. The solid color rule does apply to these “jeans days”. The dates for “jeans days” will be announced in the division heads’ weekly news. There will be days when the school may declare special “jeans days.” These will be communicated in advance. There is also a tradition that The Lexington School calls a “jeans day” if Fayette County has declared a snow day while TLS in session. This will be confirmed on the school website. Regular dress tops or TLS spirit wear are acceptable on any jeans day.
The Lexington School provides an education of the highest quality in a structured, nurturing community. We instill integrity, a joyful pursuit of learning, and a strong work ethic.
