We are excited to offer academic ‘Gear Up’ camps for any TLS student who wants to get back up to school-speed in advance of starting in the classrooms. Fill in gaps before starting a new year, review concepts to shore up that foundation, and just get back into the routine of walking into school ready for learning!
Each session is two hours in length. Students are welcome to take more than one ‘Gear Up’ and can bring a sack lunch to eat between the latter two sessions. Parents can expect a brief written report at the end of these sessions that highlights strengths and any areas to monitor more closely as the year begins.
Middle school teachers Becky Johnson and Fielden Swimm are geared up to work with rising 6, 7, and 8 students on sentence structure to powerful paragraphs, all in a way that engages that summer brain and gets it cranking in a fun way.
Middle School math teachers Angie Shaver and Andrew Schwartz want their students to start the year like the “Mathletes” they are. Fun and games make math mechanics and problem-solving fun. Students won’t even notice summer is almost over!
Who’s better at gearing up for a great year than Director of Success Kelly Telech? Get cranking on those executive functioning skills that are so important for all students as they move from middle school to LIFE! Come have fun and prepare for the new year.
Applying to a selective program for high school? This 'Gear Up' will familiarize students with the format and content of tests most pertinent to them, in addition to covering general testing strategies applicable in all standardized testing formats.
